Dr. Wölcke earned a diploma in chemistry from the University of
Dortmund, Germany, in 1995 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Max-Planck-
Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany, in 1998. During his Ph.D.
thesis he worked in the field of mechanistic enzymology of DNA-Methyltransferases.
In 1998 he moved to Hamburg, Gemany, to join EVOTEC OAI (formerly named
EVOTEC BioSystems). For two years Dr. Wölcke worked as a research scientist in
the development of miniaturized assays for high-throughput screening (HTS). In 2000
Dr. Wölcke became responsible to create the HTS group within Screening
Operations at EVOTEC OAI. The group established the closed-loop HTS process
and carried out all HTS campaigns. Since 2002 Dr. Wölcke is heading the
Screening Operations department of EVOTEC OAI and is responsible for all
screening and compound management as well as discovery informatics related tasks
within the company. Until now his team has successfully run more than 60 HTS
campaigns from all major target classes, in both miniaturized cellular and biochemical
assay formats.
