Julie Wilson is a Royal Society University Research Fellow in the York
Structural Biology Laboratory. After completing a PhD in mathematics she moved
to theoretical crystallography and began research with Professor Peter Main
into the use of wavelet transforms and image processing techniques for phasing
low resolution electron density maps. This led to her current interest in the
analysis of images from crystallisation experiments. She is developing software
to automatically evaluate these images in collaboration with Professor David
Stuart's group in Oxford. The Oxford Protein Production Facility produces many
thousands of crystallisation images daily and Julie's programme is currently
used to rank these in order of merit. Her involvement with the SPINE project
(Structural Proteomics in Europe) has led to collaboration with laboratories
throughout Europe.
