Dr Neera Borkakoti PhD Prof., Associate Director Biology and Molecular Sciences,
working in Medivir UK , since November 2001. After post-doctoral research in
protein crystallography at London University, I joined Roche Discovery Welwyn
UK where I became familiar with the principal applications of BioInformatics,
Computer Assisted Molecular Modelling and X-ray Crystallography pertinent to
the drug-design cycle in pharmaceutical research. The Biology and Molecular
Sciences department in Medivir is responsible for the planning, expression and
production of target proteins leading on to the crystallisation and structure
analyses of these proteins and their complexes. It is exciting to have the
opportunity to make an early and positive impact on most in-house projects, by
facilitating the understanding of protein-ligand complexes at a molecular level
and providing a rational basis for ligand manipulation. In order to follow this
and related areas of scientific research, I maintain links with academia via
personal contacts, lectures, seminars and collaborations. I am currently
visiting Professor in the Department of Crystallography, Birkbeck College which
allows me to enjoy interacting with students and academics at the University of
London.
